Ayr erases deficit to stun Wellesley, 5-4

The Wellesley Applejacks could not hold down the Ayr Centennials, and Centennials erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 5-4 win.

Ayr never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Centennials trailed 4-1 after a power play goal by Wellesley's Josh Herd at 18:55 in the second period. Ayr knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Hunter Moore at 8:58 in the third period. The Centennials netted the game winner at 13:48 in the third period on a goal by Moore.

Ayr was paced by Spencer Sweazy, who grabbed one goal.

The Centennials' offense rang up 43 shots on the Applejacks' net. Ayr was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 66 penalty minutes.

Ayr additionally got points from Aaron Hosszu, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ayr also got a goal from Jimmy Roy as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Adam Fisher, Ben Poort, Brandon Christopher, Nick Hirs, and Brady Wheelans, who contributed one a piece.

Wellesley was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 11 chances. The Applejacks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 82 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wellesley was led by Devon Wagner, who finished with one goal and one assist. Wagner scored short handed 4:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. The Applejacks found themselves down a man on Anthony VanHoogen's interference. Coleton Madge assisted on the tally. Mark Detzler also scored for Wellesley. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Michael Pollice, Connor McLeod, and Luke Rose, who each chipped in one.

The Centennials' Bobby Brown stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Ayr registered three goals on 17 power play opportunities. Josh Heer rejected 38 shots on goal for Wellesley.
