Norfolk falls apart in second, loses to Ayr, 8-3

The Norfolk Rebels allowed the Ayr Centennials to net four goals during the second period and fell, 8-3.

Jimmy Roy was all over the ice for Ayr, as he racked up two goals in the win. Roy found the back of the net on the power play 17:37 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ayr and again while 9:34 into the second to make the score 4-1 Ayr.

Norfolk fell victim to a deadly the Centennials power play, which ripped the Rebels for four goals.

Ayr forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Centennials surpassed its season average of 34.0 penalty minutes per game. Norfolk was unable to stop Ayr from sending pucks towards the net, and the Centennials eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Ayr's goal total was higher than its season average. The Centennials have scored at the pace of 5.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Ayr also had goals scored by Syd Saunders and Alex Mutton, who each put in one and Brandon Christopher and Hunter Moore, who scored two goals each. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Adam Fisher, Ben Poort, Spencer Sweazy, Nathan Redford, and Brady Wheelans, who contributed one a piece and Jordan Eby, Logan Beechey, and Zack Taylor, who each chipped in two.

The Rebels were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of 10 man advantages.

Norfolk was helped by Dylan Heaslip, who finished with one goal. Heaslip scored 1:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Norfolk. Chris Murray picked up the assist. Norfolk additionally got points from Murray, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Steven Pineo also scored for Norfolk. More assists for Norfolk came via Kurtis Pettitt, who had one.

Jordan Witt recorded 23 saves for Ayr. Jason Miller made 36 saves for the Rebels on 44 shots. Norfolk ended with 29 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors and one major.
