Wellesley uses shootout to best Ayr, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wellesley Applejacks defeated the Ayr Centennials in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Wellesley got a shootout goal from Rob Hinschberger.

The Applejacks kept Ayr's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jordan Witt made 27 saves on 31 shots.

Wellesley was helped by Troy Williams, who grabbed three goals. More assists for Wellesley came via Devon Wagner, who had three and Reid Denstedt, Josh Herd, and Anthony VanHoogen, who contributed one a piece.

The Centennials did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Ayr puts an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game. The Applejacks were unable to stop the Centennials from sending pucks towards the net, and Ayr eventually piled up 48 shots on goal.

The Centennials were helped by Alex Richard, who racked up one goal. Richard scored on the power play 44 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brady Wheelans provided the assist. Ayr also got points from Brandon Christopher, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ayr also got a goal from Ben Poort as well. In addition, Ayr received assists from Jordan Eby, Nick Hirs, and Zack Taylor, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley's Josh Heer stopped 45 shots out of the 48 that he faced. The Applejacks totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Ayr incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
