Lucan uses shootout to best Lambeth, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Lucan Irish defeated the Lambeth Lancers in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams. Lambeth got a shootout goal from Tanner Smith. Lucan also got a shootout goal from Colin Nancekivell.

The Irish pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 33 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:32 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Lucan forced the Lancers goalie Logan Ferrington to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. The Irish were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 13 chances.

Lucan was helped by Cam Bond, who tallied one goal and one assist. Bond scored 6:11 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Lucan. Nancekivell provided the assist. Lucan additionally got points from Nancekivell, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Fraser Lewis also scored for Lucan. More assists for Lucan came via Dylan Murray, who had two and Mitch Read and Wes Huston, who each chipped in one.

The Lambeth penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 36.0 minutes per game the Lancers had been spending in the box. Lambeth could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Lancers put an average of 6.5 pucks into the net per game. Lambeth kept the Irish's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dylan Hoover made 45 saves on 49 shots. The Lancers' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Lambeth gives up 2.3 goals per game.

The Lancers were led by Warren Hargraves, who finished with one goal and one assist. Hargraves scored 17:40 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Mitch Thomas picked up the assist. Lambeth also got a goal from Nick West as well. In addition, Lambeth received assists from Derek Courtney, Mitch Furlonger, and Justin Clark, who contributed one a piece.

Lucan ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mitch Smith was ejected from the game. Lambeth's Ferrington stopped 40 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Lancers registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Team's Furlonger and Cleo Gubbels were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
