Blenheim wins tough contest against Port Stanley, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Blenheim escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Port Stanley Sailors.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Aaron Pastorius at 4:12 of the third period.

Blenheim pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 39 penalty minutes.

Blenheim was paced by Jarrod Oliphant, who racked up one goal. Oliphant scored on the power play 8:03 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Blenheim. Blenheim had taken the advantage when Port Stanley's Graham Silcox got sent off for roughing. Shawn Hope picked up the assist.

Blenheim's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 10 Port Stanley power plays.

Blenheim also got points from Hope, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Blenheim also got a goal from Tyler Clarke as well. More assists for Blenheim came via Cam Aitken, Zack Horvath, Trevor Sparks, and Kurt Beecroft, who contributed one a piece.

The Sailors were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 37.0 minutes per game Port Stanley had been spending in the box.

The Sailors were helped by Tyson Corkum, who registered one goal. Corkum scored 16:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Stanley. Conner Halonen provided the assist. Dan Gordon also scored for Port Stanley. Other players who recorded assists for Port Stanley were Taylor McArthur, who had one.

Dylan Vanderpol made 20 saves for Blenheim on 22 shots. Blenheim registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. Blenheim ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Fleury was ejected from the game. Ricky Corkum recorded 26 saves for Port Stanley. For the Sailors, Ryan McDonnell was ejected from the game.
