Port Stanley hangs on, beats Mt.Brydges 5-3

Ryan McDonnell gave the Port Stanley Sailors the lead in the first period, and the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 5-3.

Port Stanley took over the lead for good with a goal by McDonnell at 1:39 in the first period. Austin Blais picked up the assist.

The Sailors' penalty kill excelled, as Port Stanley gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Sailors were sparked by Dan Gordon, who grabbed one goal. Gordon scored 14:37 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Port Stanley. Josh Tremblay assisted on the tally.

Mt.Brydges was unable to stop Port Stanley from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sailors eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Port Stanley also got a goal from Tanner Turley as well. More assists for Port Stanley came via Taylor Schram and Tyler Beaulieu, who each chipped in one.

The Bulldogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Stanley to score on any of its three power plays. Mt.Brydges' offense rang up 35 shots on the Sailors' net.

The Bulldogs were helped by David Wade, who had one goal. Wade scored on the power play 13:20 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Port Stanley. An interference penalty on Mark Brisson had put Mt.Brydges on the power play. Sean Candler picked up the assist. Mt.Brydges also got points from Candler, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mitch Rowse also scored for Mt.Brydges. In addition, Mt.Brydges received assists from Grant Johns and Robert Mapes, who contributed one a piece.

Brandon Garner recorded 32 saves for Port Stanley. The Sailors incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Bulldogs' Eric Steinman stopped 35 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Mt.Brydges incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
