Wellesley boosted by Heer's play in net, beats Tavistock 3-1

Josh Heer had a standout game with 33 saves, and the Wellesley Applejacks beat the Tavistock Braves 3-1.

Tavistock's power play was ineffective against Wellesley's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Applejacks were paced by Steve Tait, who finished with one goal. Tait scored 6:54 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Wellesley. Tyler Eckert assisted on the tally.

Wellesley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Braves to score on any of their six power plays. The Applejacks forced Tavistock goalie Taylor VanBockel to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Wellesley additionally got points from Corey Way, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Wellesley also got a goal from Coleton Madge as well. More assists for Wellesley came via Troy Williams, who had two and Michael Pollice and Anthony VanHoogen, who each chipped in one.

The Braves' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Wellesley power plays. Tavistock could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Braves average 3.3 goals per game. Tavistock's offense rang up 34 shots on Wellesley's net.

The Braves were led by Jeremy Munro, who scored the team's only goal. Munro scored 4:00 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Tavistock. Andrew Schacht picked up the assist.

The Applejacks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. VanBockel recorded 33 saves for Tavistock. The Braves incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Tavistock ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and James McCorquodale was ejected from the game.
