St. Catharines boosted by Pope's play in net, beats Brantford 5-1

The St. Catharines Falcons relied on the sparkling performance of Brad Pope in net to grab a 5-1 win against the Brantford Golden Eagles.

The win by St. Catharines clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.

The Falcons were led by Luke Karaim, who had one goal. Karaim scored on the power play 2:24 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Catharines. St. Catharines had taken the advantage when Brantford's Brett Appio got sent off for high sticking. Matt Melo picked up the assist.

St. Catharines additionally got points from Andy Sturtz, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Ben Dubois, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Kyle Woodhouse also scored for St. Catharines. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Johnson Andrews, who had one and Nick Hovanessian, who had two.

The Golden Eagles kept the Falcons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Pope made 31 saves on 32 shots.

Brantford was led by Matt Prinsen, who scored the team's only goal. Prinsen scored 4:17 into the third period to make the score 3-1 St. Catharines. Tyler Norrie assisted on the tally.

St. Catharines incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Bryce O Hagan rejected 20 shots on goal for the Golden Eagles. Brantford incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
