Nate Mitton scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Brantford Golden Eagles held off the challenges of the St. Catharines Falcons in a tough 2-1 win. A goal 8:56 into the the first period by Mitton proved to be the game winner, and powered Brantford to the victory Mike Rebry picked up the assist.The Golden Eagles were led by goalie Talon DOrazio (APJ), who finished with 38 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, DOrazio (APJ) will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest. Brantford pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 25 penalty minutes. The Golden Eagles were helped by Jeff Swift, who grabbed one goal. Swift scored 11:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Brantford. Trent Hawke provided the assist. More assists for Brantford came via Matt Quilty and Dillan Walker, who each chipped in one. St. Catharines' offense operated below it season average. The Falcons average 3.5 goals per game. St. Catharines' offense rang up 39 shots on Brantford's net. The Falcons had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. St. Catharines was led by Andy Sturtz, who scored the team's only goal. Sturtz scored on the power play 19:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brantford. The Falcons had gotten the advantage when the Golden Eagles' Matt Prinsen was sent off for tripping. Nick Hovanessian assisted on the tally. Brantford registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Team's Tyler Norrie and Andrew Wilson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
