Grimsby rips Chippawa, 8-0

Behind a great game by Andrew Kolodzey, who had two goals, the Grimsby Peach Kings defeated the Chippawa Riverhawks, 8-0.

Kolodzey scored on the power play at 3:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Grimsby and again while 2:32 into the second to make the score 3-0 Grimsby.

The win by Grimsby clinched the best of seven series at 0-4.

The Peach Kings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Chippawa power plays. Grimsby kept Chippawa's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jason Shaw made 36 saves on 44 shots. The Peach Kings surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Grimsby averages five goals per contest.

Grimsby additionally got points from Jason McNeil, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Grimsby got a goal from Jacob Tuck as well. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Arie Dendekker, who had three, Des Cowan and Robert Wormald, who each chipped in one, and Drew Whalen and Curtis Jacques, who contributed two each.

The Riverhawks could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Chippawa puts an average of two pucks into the net per game. The Riverhawks' offense were handcuffed by the Peach Kings' defensive play, and Chippawa managed only 13 shots on goal during the game.

Jeremy Currie recorded 13 saves for Grimsby. The Peach Kings totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Grimsby ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Richard Recchia was ejected from the game. The Riverhawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
