Norwich downs Simcoe in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Norwich Merchants pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Simcoe Storm on a clutch goal by Tom Brady.

The win by Norwich clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

The Merchants got the win thanks to a great game by Brady, who had two goals and one assist. Brady scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:24 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Norwich. Norwich had gotten the advantage when Simcoe's Kennan Hall was sent off for checking from behind. Curtis Logan picked up the assist. Brady's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Norwich with 15:19 left in. A hooking penalty on Pat Fergus had put the Merchants on the power play. Logan provided the assist.

Norwich made the most of it opportunities with a man advantage, slotting home two goals while the Storm were on the penalty kill.

The Merchants kept Simcoe's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Gegeny made 57 saves on 62 shots. Norwich's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Merchants finished with 16 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Todd Kemp, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Norwich additionally got points from Brady, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Bryan Phillips, who also racked up one goal and three assists. Jesse Cave also scored for Norwich. In addition, Norwich received assists from Nick Burdett, Jakob Schira, and Todd Poirier, who each chipped in one.

The Storm forced Norwich goalie Matt McGonigle to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.

Simcoe also got points from Braden Shand, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Fergus, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. Simcoe got a goal from Corey Bethune as well. Other players who recorded assists for Simcoe were Josh Bint, who had one.

Matt McGonigle made 42 saves for the Merchants on 46 shots. For Norwich, Burdett was ejected from the game. Simcoe incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Storm ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hall was ejected from the game.
