Shaw leads Caledonia to shutout victory over DunnvilleHaldimand Center Wed, Feb 15, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Caledonia Corvairs used a sparkling performance by J.D Shaw to take down the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Caledonia's 5-0 shutout victory. The win by the Corvairs broke a deadlock and gave Caledonia a 4-3 advantage in the best of seven series. Matt Charbonneau was all over the ice for the Corvairs, as he had two goals in the win. Charbonneau scored at 6:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia and again while short handed 6:52 into the second to make the score 4-0 Caledonia. Caledonia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Corvairs forced Dunnville goalie Spencer Peacock to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Caledonia got a goal from William Horvatis as well. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Gregory Christmas, Connor Cadaret, Curtis Crago, Brier Jonathan, and Jaccob DeNobriga, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Mudcats put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Caledonia to score on any of its three power plays. Dunnville's offense operated below it season average. The Jr. Mudcats put an average of three pucks into the net per game. Dunnville kept the Corvairs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Shaw made 40 saves on 40 shots. Caledonia incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Spencer Peacock made 30 saves for the Jr. Mudcats on 34 shots. Dunnville incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
