Dunnville outlasts Caledonia, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Caledonia Corvairs.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Mack Steele's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Dunnville evened the best of seven series at 3-3 and forced a deciding game seven.

The Jr. Mudcats were led by Steele, who racked up one goal. Steele scored on the power play 22 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-3 Dunnville. Hugh Carson picked up the assist.

In a losing effort, Caledonia was led by Stefan Scione, who grabbed two goals. Scione scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. The Corvairs earned a power play opportunity when Drake Hart was put in the box for high sticking. Matt Charbonneau assisted on the tally. Scione's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Caledonia with 1:45 left in the first period. Gregory Christmas picked up the assist.

Dunnville got a goal from Luke Rowe as well. Other players who recorded assists for Dunnville were Corey Blackwood, who had two and Bret Golding and Landon Minor, who contributed one each.

Jordan McCarl also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Simon Blythe, who had one and Jamie Williams, who had two.

Spencer Peacock recorded 21 saves for Dunnville. The Jr. Mudcats incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Caledonia's J.D Shaw stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Corvairs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
