LIMA LOCOS vs. MICHIGAN MONARCHS - Cancelled
SIMMONS FIELD - The season finale between the Lima Locos and Michigan Monarchs was canceled on Saturday due to the combination of rain and poor field conditions.
An early round of storms in the Lima area initially put the game in jeopardy as Simmons Field was heavily rained on without the protection of a full field tarp.
Staff members were working on the field when a second round of storms invaded the area. The plan was to try to start the game at 8pm, one hour after the scheduled start time. Mother Nature delivered the knockout blow with a second round of heavy showers ending the possibility of getting the game in on the last day of the regular season.
The Monarchs only needed to win the game to capture the final playoff spot in the upcoming GLSCL North Division series against the division champion Locos. As it turned out, the Monarchs secured the spot without playing the game as the game will not be made up.
The Monarchs finish the season with a record of 21-19 adding up to a .525 winning percentage.
In a tough break for the Muskegon Clippers, who finished the season sweeping the final over the Grand Lake Mariners. The Clippers find themselves on the outside looking in of the post season finishing 22-20 with a .524 winning percentage.
The North Division best-of-three game series begins Monday with the Locos hosting game one at Simmons Field starting at 7:05pm. The series will shift the Monarchs home at Hillsdale College on Tuesday with the if necessary Wednesday in Lima.
MUSKEGON CLIPPERS 8 GRAND LAKE MARINERS 7 - FINAL
MARSH FIELD - The Muskegon Clippers finished the season with a thrilling finish defeating the Grand Lake Mariners in sudden death on Saturday night at Marsh Field.
The Clippers made a furious comeback in its attempt to reach the playoffs for the third straight season. Unfortunately, due to some circumstances that were beyond its control, the Clippers fall a one one-thousands of a point short of qualifying for the playoff spot.
That didn’t stop an effort that saw the Clippers sweep the series with the Mariners capping off with a sudden death victory.
Muskegon (22-20) broke seal in the fourth inning with a Casey Barnes (University of Northwestern Ohio) scored on an RBI-single by Cole Mason (Grand Valley State). The Clippers took a 2-0 lead when Ben Meyers (Lake Michigan College) delivered a run-scoring base hit driving in Parker Vaughn (Lansing CC).
The Mariners (11-31) tied the game 2-2 in the top of the inning. Ty O’Brien (University of Toledo) roped a two-run double to center field scoring both Sammy Besztery (University of Rochester) and Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western University).
The game remained tied 2-2 through 10 innings when sudden death format came into effect.
The Mariners went on offense needing to score a run and avoid being swept. Also, if the Mariners win it would eliminate any doubt about Muskegon’s playoff situation.
Lukas Brewer (Lansing CC) came in out of the bullpen in the closer role for the second straight night. Brewer retired the side securing the Clippers final win of the season. Brewer finished out the Mariners throwing two shutout innings without allowing a hit or a walk earning his first victory of the season.
Jake Lopez (University of Scranton transfer) pitched the final five and 1/3 shutout inning for the Mariners. Lopez scattered five hits, allowed one walk and registered two strikeouts.
Muskegon pitchers Nathan Masar (Saginaw Valley State) and Jacob Pallo (Hillsdale College) combined to shutout the Mariners for the first eight innings.
Masar went the first four and 1/3 giving up just three hits and three walks while striking out five batters. Pallo gave up just one hit in two and 2/3 innings striking out a pair of Grand Lake batters.
The Clippers, who got off to a dreadful 2-7 start to the season, finish the year 20-13 with separate winning streaks of four and five games.
HAMILTON JOES 10 XENIA SCOUTS 8 - FINAL
FOUNDATION FIELD - The Hamilton Joes sweep the Xenia Scouts in the South Division series preview with a 10-8 victory on Saturday at Foundation Field.

The Scouts (24-18) on the other hand stagger into the playoffs losing its final four games all of which happened after clinching the South Division title.
Hamilton overcame a 6-5 deficit after scoring five runs in the second inning. In the seventh, the Joes tied the game 6-6 when Brett Denby (Wright State) scored from third base. Christopher Roa (Miami University) gave Hamilton the lead 7-6 on a sacrifice fly by Jaxson Christ (Trevecca Nazarene).
The Joes scored three very important insurance runs in the eighth taking a 10-6 advantage. Roa’s two-run triple was the big blow in the inning.
Roa finished the game going 3-for-4 at the plate with Cody Miller (Lake Erie College) and Mark Nowak (Northern Kentucky University) each chipping in two hits.
The Scouts rallied in the top of the ninth. Kaden Wu (Taylor University) lead off with a double followed by Carter Jackman (Mississippi College) singling to center field. When the Joes center fielder committed an error on the play, it allowed Wu to score on the play. Jackman would eventually score on a passed ball making it a 10-8 game.
The Scouts has two outs and runners on the corners, the Joes brought in designated hitter Diego DeCello (Marietta College) to pitch. DeCello, making his first pitching appearance of the summer, retired the only batter he faced when he induced Will Lawrence (Samford University) to ground into a fielder’s choice for the game’s final out.
The two teams will meet up in the GLSCL South Division series beginning on Monday. The Scouts host game one on Grady’s Field at Browne Stadium in Xenia. The Joes will host game two on Tuesday at Foundation Field with the if necessary game in Xenia on Wednesday.
