Bristol Blues vs. Mystic Schooners

Final Score: Mystic 5, Bristol 1

Mystic, CT- The Schooners hosted the Blues for a dominant matchup by the home team on a humid night on the Connecticut shoreline. Bristol got on the board first when Gianno Merlonghi (Central Conn) scored on a wild pitch to put the Blues on the board first at 1-0. Mystic fired right back in the bottom of the inning when Eric Cha (Northeastern) cracked a two-run home run over the fence to give Mystic the lead, 2-1. In the bottom of the fifth, Davis Johnson (Notre Dame) drove in another run for the Schooners to increase the lead to 3-1. Eric Cha (Northeastern) struck again when he drove in Johnson on an RBI single to further increase the lead to 4-1.

Mystic added on again in the bottom of the sixth when David Mendez hit an RBI single, adding an insurance run to make the score 5-1. That would remain the score, as the Schooners would take down the number one seed in the South Division.

Newport Gulls vs Martha’s Vineyard Sharks

Final Score: Gulls 8, Sharks 2

Newport, RI – The Newport Gulls defeated the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 8-2 on Friday night at Cardines Field. The Gulls used a late offensive surge to put the game away and stay within a few games of Bristol for first place in the South Division.

Newport jumped out in front first in the bottom of the second inning. With Randy Seymour (Michigan St) at second base, it was Ryan Novak (Miami OH) who drove him in with an RBI single to left field.

The 1-0 lead would hold till the Sharks tied the game up in the fifth inning and made it 1-1. With the bases loaded in the fifth, Marcel Kulik (Virginia Tech) came in for relief and escaped the jam for Newport. Kulik then pitched a scoreless sixth inning to keep the game tied.

In the seventh, Newport jumped back out in front off the bat of Matt Bolton (Binghamton), who hit a two-RBI single to center, giving the Gulls the lead. Despite a run from Martha’s Vineyard, the Gulls added on five more runs in the final two innings to take home the win 8-2. Newport managed those eight runs on 12 hits while the Sharks had seven hits for their two runs.

Valley Blue Sox vs. Ocean State Waves (Game Two)

Final Score: Ocean State 3, Valley 1

South Kingstown, RI – The Ocean State Waves ended a rough losing streak with a 3-1 victory in game two of Friday night’s double header against the Valley Blue Sox.

Valley struck first in the opening frame, but it would be all they could get for today. While they had three hits in the inning, the bats went silent the rest of the way, thanks to a masterful pitching performance by the Ocean State bullpen. Bryce McKnight (Arizona) headlined the tremendous staff, going three hitless innings while striking out five.

Liam Flynn (Nichols) and Greg Pettay (South Alabama) each had a solo homer for the Waves, while Gavin Greger (Bryant) knocked a triple. Coen Niclai (Oregon) had a hit as well, and with Greger and Pettay also recording base hits, put the total at six for the game.
