Lima's Vandegrift is the GLSCL Pitcher of the Week

GLSCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - July 21, 2025

Landon Vandegrift - Lima Locos - University of  Akron

Landon Vandegrift pitched five shutout innings with a season high 10 strikeouts in a 10-0 shutout win over the Grand Lake Mariners on July 19. Vandegrift didn’t allow a base runner to get past second base while scattering three hits and allowing only two walks. It was Vandergrift’s longest outing of the season.

 

On the season, Vandegrift improved his record to 2-0 on the season. In 21 innings of work over the course of seven appearances, Vandegrift notched 20 strikeouts. He lowered his ERA by nearly two runs down down to 4.71 on the season.

 

The Orient, Ohio native appeared in 10 games, making seven starts this past spring as a freshman for the University of Akron. Vandegrift pitched 17.0 innings, striking out 11 batters for the Zips.

Andrew Onuegbu - Flag City Sluggers - Glen Oaks CC

Andrew Onuegbu signed with the Flag City Sluggers Sunday morning and delivered a memorable debut for the team on Sunday night. Onuegbu started the second game of double header pitching six shutout innings. He faced just one batter above the minimum giving up just one hit and two walks in the Sluggers 6-1 win over the Xenia Scouts. 

 

 

Jack Cecil - Hamilton Joes - South Mountain CC

Jack Cecil appeared in two games out of the bullpen throwing five innings and registering seven strikeouts. Cecil earned his first victory of the season for the Joes on July 19 against the Muskegon Clippers. He gave up just one unearned run in four innings scattering five hits and striking out five batters. 

 

 

Troy Lopez - Xenia Scouts - Westmont College

Troy Lopez pitched six shutout innings for the Scouts in a 1-0 victory on July 16 against the Muskegon Clippers. Lopez allowed just four base runners giving up just two hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 7 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
