Winter Park, Fla. - The Winter Garden Squeeze bounced back from a 13-2 loss and flipped the script as they run ruled the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs in an 11-1 win on the road on Friday.
By mutual agreement of the teams, Friday’s game was declared final after four innings, with Winter Garden the winner by an 11-1 score.
This time, it was the Squeeze that put together an early offensive flurry. It began in the top of the first inning when Sean Stafford (Folsom Lake) hit an RBI single to bring Nico Banez (Dartmouth) home to get the scoring started. Then, Isaac Incinelli (St Johns River State) clear the bases when he belted a three run home run over the right field wall to extend the lead to 4-0 after just one inning.
It was a tough outing for the Diamond Dawgs, who did not score until the final inning of play and already in a large deficit.
Winter Garden carried its momentum from the first throughout the rest of the evening. In the top of the third, the big bat of Drew Pynes caught fire once again as he scored Stafford on an RBI single of his own.
The Squeeze had one of their biggest innings of the summer in the fourth when they piled on six runs to put the game out of reach. After swinging and missing the first two pitches he saw followed by two outside of the strike zone, Zacharias Walker (Hillsborough CC) got the party started when he sent a moonshot into right and off the scorebaord for a solo homer to make it a 6-0 ballgame. Then, Cole Steinmetz (Valdosta St) batted in a run of his own and scored himself on a wild pitch. Stafford and Pynes both added to their RBI totals for the day on a sacrifice fly and a base hit, respectively, and put Winter Garden out in front 11-0 after three and a half frames.
Ben Barrow (James Madison) hit a single into left field that allowed Roberto Odor (St Leo) to round the bases for Winter Park’s first run of the game, but unfortunately for the hosts, the scoring gap was too large to overcome.
The Squeeze will play their final regular season game of 2025 against the Diamond Dawgs at Rollins College on July 19 at 6:00 p.m.
