Muskegon's Maxwell Salas wins Pitcher of the Week

GLSCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - July 14, 2025

 

Maxwell Salas - Muskegon Clippers - Northwood University

Maxwell Salas pitched six no-hit innings for the during a seven-inning no-hitter for the Muskegon Clippers against the Southern Ohio Copperheads on July 12. Salas notched five strikeouts allowed just two base runners both on walks. He threw a season high 74 pitches before being taking out the game. Teammate Winston Delp completed the combined no-hitter pitching a perfect final inning.

 

Salas started the season in the Clippers bullpen before going into the starting rotation in time for his first start on July 5. Salas has a 2.82 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched striking out 23 batters while only allowing six walks.

 

The Zeeland, Michigan naive redshirted this past spring as a freshman at Northwood University. The Timberwolves won the GMAC regular season and conference titles advancing to the NCAA D-II Championship for the first time in program history.

 

 

HONORABLE MENTION - Pitcher of the Week

 

Braxton Betancourt - Flag City Sluggers - Huntington University commit

Braxton Betancourt pitched a season high seven innings with a season high eight strikeouts while earning the victory in a 2-1 Sluggers win over the Grand Lake Mariners. Betancourt, who recently committed to Huntington University after a stint at Olney Central College, gave up just one run while scattering six hits.

 

 

Matty Helms - Hamilton Joes - Wabash Valley College commit

Matty Helms made three relief appearances during the week recording two saves for the Joes. Helms three three inning only giving up one unearned run on two hits and one walk. In the nine batters that he retired, Helms recorded seven strikeouts.

 

 

Owen Elsey - Michigan Monarchs - Schoolcraft College

Owen Eldey pitched five shutout innings in a 1-0 Monarchs win over the Hamilton Joes. Elsey scattered three hits while striking out five and not allowing a walk. The victory improved his record on the season to 2-1.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 7 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
