Grand Lake's Jake Lopez named GLSCL Player of the Week

GLSCL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - July 14, 2025

 

Jake Lopez - Grand Lake Mariners - University of Scranton transfer

Jake Lopez went 12-for-29 at the plate for a .414 batting average playing in seven games during the week for the Mariners. Lopez had at least one hit in all seven games extending his current hitting streak to nine straight games. He accumulated a .485 on-base percentage thanks in part to having four extra base hits and drawing three walks. Lopez also scored five runs and drove in five RBIs.

 

Lopez didn’t join the team until June 18 nearly two weeks after the season began but has been an important part of the Mariners offensive attack. He is leading the Mariners with a .316 batting average for the season.

 

The Oakland, New Jersey native has played the previous two seasons at the University of Scranton. This past spring Lopez it .360 for the Royals with six doubles, one triple, two home runs, 31 RBI, eight stolen bases and 33 runs scored. After the season Lopez entered the transfer portal looking opportunities to play above the D-III level.

 

 

HONORABLE MENTION - Player of the Week

 

Jaxson Christ - Hamilton Joes - Lake Erie  College

Jaxson Christ narrowly missed out on his second Player of the Week honor. Christ was 10-for-24 with a .417 batting average, .548 on-base percentage and .583 slugging percentage. He had a double, a home run and four RBIs with three runs scored.

 

 

Chris Franks - Flag City Sluggers - Ashland University 

Chris Franks went 6-for-15 for a .400 batting average over the course of six games for the Sluggers. Franks scored eight runs, reached base on eight walks and stole four bases. He scored three runs a 16-10 Sluggers victory over the Grand Lake Mariners on July 12.

 

 

Davis Weeks - Muskegon Clippers - Michigan State University

Davis Weeks was a contender for both Player and Pitcher of the Week recognition. Weeks was 6-for-16 at the plate with a .375 batting average with three RBIs and six runs scored. On the mound, Weeks made three relief appearances earning a win and a save in three and 1/3 innings of work. He gave up just one run on three hits with eight strikeouts.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
