XENIA SCOUTS  8  MICHIGAN MONARCHS  6  -  FINAL

HILLSDALE COLLEGE - The Xenia Scouts take the rubber game winning a three-game road series with an 8-6 victory on Sunday over the Michigan Monarchs.

 

The Scouts finish the week with its 20th win of the season and the best record in the South Division at 20-13. Xenia is three games ahead of the pace in the division standings.

 

Oliver Adams (North Greenville), who is scheduled to be the South Division starting pitcher in next week’s all-star game, went seven innings earning the victory. Adams improved his record to 3-0 on the season. 

 

The Scouts gave Adams a four-run cushion before he stepped foot on the mound takin a 4-0 lead after the first half inning of play.

 

Troy Lynch (University of Minnesota Duluth) got things started with an RBI-single driving in Noah Manasan (Arizona Christian University). Next up was Will Lawrence (Samford University) who delivered a run scoring base hit allowing Johnathan Jackson (Harding University) to score from third base. After Lynch scored on a wild pitch, Lawrence crossed the plate on a single by Rolen Reyes (Westmont College).

 

The Monarchs (16-17) cut the deficit in half scoring twice in the second inning. Justin Best (University of New Orleans) lead off the inning by being hit a pitch and came around to score on a double by Tyler Fox (Ohio State). Kooper Etherridge (Madonna University) later scored on a sacrifice fly by Ben Brittingham (Hanover College).

 

The Scouts scored four more times in the sixth inning only needing one hit in the process. It began with back-to-back bases loaded walks followed by a run scoring passed ball. The one hit was a run producer as Manasan scored on an RBI-single by Caleb Webster (Trevecca Nazarene).

 

The Monarchs made a late inning surge. Keegan Knupp (Eastern Michigan), who went 3-for-5 on the day, came through with a two-out RBI-single in the seventh inning driving home Wyatt Epple (Davenport University).

 

An RBI-single by Brittingham and a run scoring double by Cannon Paul (Western Michigan) plated two more runs in the eighth inning. 

 

Michigan rallied in the ninth inning trialing 8-5. With runners on the corners, Greg Guzik (Central Michigan) grounded into a double play but scoring from third base was Kenny McKinley (Middle Tennessee State) who also had three hits in the game.

 

Nick Rodriguez (Wiley College) was able to get the final out for the Scouts getting Best to groundout for the final out of the game.

 

On Tuesday, the Scouts host the Muskegon Clippers while Monarchs welcome in the Grand Lake Mariners.

HAMILTON JOES  4  LIMA LOCOS  3  -  FINAL   

SIMMONS FIELD - The Hamilton Joes went to Simmons Field and left with a 4-3 victory and a series win over the first place Lima Locos.

 

The Joes (17-16) took advantage of six costly Locos errors including one that allowed the go ahead run to score in the ninth inning.

 

With the score tied 3-3, Hamilton’s Christopher Roa (Miami University) stole third base racing home when the throw got past the third basemen going into left field.

 

That was all the Joes needed as Matty Helms (Northern Kentucky native) slammed the door in the ninth inning. Helms struck out two Locos batters on his way to earning his third save of the season.

 

The Locos (22-11) had tied the game 3-3 in the seventh inning when David Faloon (Mercer University) was driven home on a sacrifice fly by Carter Schueler (Sauk Valley CC).

 

The Joes took an initial 1-0 lead scoring an unearned run run in the top of the first inning on the second of two Locos errors committed in the inning.

 

Lima answered scoring twice during its half of the first inning. Anthony Sarro (Fairleigh Dickinson) doubled to right field driving in Colton Shirley (Purdue Fort Wayne). Sarro then came around to score when Cole Crafton (University of Louisville) smacked an RBI-single to right field.

 

The Joes lead for the first time in the game in the top of the third inning. Jaxson Christ (Lake Erie College) lead off the inning with a solo homer tying the game 2-2. Roa gave the Joes a 3-2 advantage scoring on an RBI-single by Miguel Correa (Central Michigan).

 

On Tuesday, the Joes will host the Flag City Sluggers while the Locos travel to Athens taking on the Southern Ohio Copperheads.

 

 

FLAG CITY SLUGGERS  4  GRAND LAKE MARINERS  1 -  FINAL

MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Flag City Sluggers travels to Celina taking down the hosting Grand Lake Mariners 4-1 in the Sunday afternoon matinee.

 

The Sluggers (16-16) take the four-game series winning three out of four during the weekend set. 

 

Flag City broke a 1-1 tie when Chris Franks (Ashland University) lead off the second inning with a solo home run. The Sluggers added another run in the inning when Trey Gardner (Three Rivers CC) scored on a sacrifice fly by Brett Reed (Lawrence University). 

 

The Sluggers added on a run in the ninth inning when Reed delivered an RBI-double scoring pinch runner Ryan Miezin (Lincoln Trail College).

 

Reed had quite a day for the Sluggers going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, sacrifice fly, stolen base and two RBIs.

 

The Mariners (10-23) scored its only run in the first inning when Jake Lopez’s (University of Scranton transfer) RBI-groundout allowed A.J. Klubeck (Palomar College) to score from third base.

 

Hayden Gilmore (Three Rivers CC) pitched two innings in relief for the Sluggers earning his first victory of the summer. Cooper Ashby (Redlands CC) pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save of the season.

 

Flag City travels to Hamilton on Tuesday beginning a three-game series against the Joes at Foundation Field. The Mariners head north of the state border on Tuesday taking on the Michigan Monarchs at Hillsdale College.
