Other 7/10 Games: Ospreys Break Four-Game Losing Streak with Win at South Shore

North Fork 8, South Shore 3

 

The North Fork Ospreys ended a four-game losing streak, defeating the South Shore Clippers by a score of 8-3 on Thursday at William Floyd High School.

 

North Fork broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third with an RBI single from James Fagnant (Richmond) to take a 1-0 lead. South Shore would even the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Adams (St. John’s).

 

The Ospreys would break the 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs in the inning to take a 5-1 lead. The Ospreys would add another three runs to lead 8-1.

 

Sebastian Perez (La Salle), who started the game for the Ospreys, had trouble in the bottom of the sixth, allowing two runs. Matt Guido (Lycoming) took over from Perez and pitched the final 1.2 innings to give the Ospreys the win before taking two days off for Saturday’s HCBL All-Star Game.

 

La Salle pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Perez improved his record on the season to 3-1.

 

Fagnant finished the day for the Ospreys, batting 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Kevin Schnupp (UMass) and Vincent Mariniello (Franklin & Marshall) each had a pair of hits for North Fork in the win.


 

Southampton 1, Shelter Island 0 (8 Innings)

 

In an exciting scoreless pitcher’s duel at Southampton High School, Luke Ciminiello (Stony Brook) broke the tie with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give the Breakers a 1-0 win over the Shelter Island Bucks.

 

Breakers starting pitcher Aden Soroca (Hamilton) went six innings, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts and three walks. Giacoma Travagila (Fordham) went the last two innings for Southampton, getting the win in relief.


Dylan Joseph (RIT) got the start for the Bucks and went five innings, allowing three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. Joseph currently leads the HCBL in strikeouts with 40 on the season. JJ Humenay (St. Lawrence), who pitched 2.2 innings of relief for Shelter Island, took the loss.
