Newport, RI – The Valley Blue Sox made a stunning comeback in their match-up against South Division rivals Newport Gulls, defeating them 6-5 in extra innings.

Newport added two more in the very next inning with  Andreaus Lewis (Manhattan) singled to drive in one, and Petey Craska (North Alabama) coming home on an error. This brought the Newport lead to  5-1.

Mystic Schooners vs. Ocean State Waves

Final Score: Ocean State 8, Mystic 4

Wakefield, RI – With a combined 14 strikeouts, the Ocean State Waves pitching staff led its team to an 8-4 victory over the Mystic Schooners on Wednesday night.

Ocean State jumped out in front early, as Coen Niclai (Oregon) blasted a three-RBI home run in the bottom of the first, marking back-to-back days he has left the building. Mystic responded right away with three of its own, as Anthony Belisario (UConn) hit a ground rule double to get the Schooners on the board before an error and groundout plated runs two and three to tie the game in the top of the second.

Mystic added another run in the third on a Michael Torres (Miami) double, but that’d be all they’d get for the day, as it was all Ocean State from there. Brandon DeGoti (Miami) regained the lead with a two-RBI single in the fourth, before Kolton Reynolds (Arkansas) hit a solo shot in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-4. The Waves added two more runs of insurance in the seventh on a Reynolds RBI single, who would later come around to score on a wild pitch.

The Ocean State bullpen was fantastic, highlighted by Max Marchetti (Northeastern) and Caleb Hughes (Southern Miss) striking out the side in the sixth and seventh, respectively. JT Weaver (Shippensburg), who came on in relief in the third, was issued the win for the Waves while Mystic pitcher Jake Neely (Arizona State) was tagged with the loss.

The Schooners lose their third in a row and drop to 13-16. They get the day off tomorrow before hosting the Keene SwampBats on Friday, while Ocean State travels to the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks tomorrow at 7:05 as they jump to 13-14 on the year.
