Gulls Manager Mike Coombs Named 2025 All-Star Game Manager
Date: Jul 12, 2025
The NECBL is proud to announce the managers for the 2025 All-Star Game in Hartford, VT. With a league-best 21-10 record, Shaun McKenna of the Keene SwampBats will take the reins of the North Division, while Mike Coombs of the Newport Gulls will make his second straight appearance as a skipper for the All-Star Game, this time for the South Division.
Coombs is no stranger to success, having won five NECBL titles since joining the Gulls organization in 2005 (2005, 2009, 2012, 2014 and 2024). His selection to the All-Star team will mark his eighth appearance all-time.
Prior to Newport, Coombs played collegiate baseball at Seminole Community College and the University of South Florida, playing catcher and outfielder. He then played in the Detroit Tigers organization before coaching at South Florida and within the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
McKenna first took over as Keene’s head coach in the 2020 season after helping the SwampBats to a 2019 NECBL championship as an associate coach. He carries a storied baseball history, having won the Division III World Series in 1997 with the University of Southern Maine.
As a manager, McKenna first started at Marshall University before returning to Southern Maine for five seasons. He has also coached St. Anselm College, Castleton University, and Ranger Junior College. He just recently wrapped up his second season with the Keene State Owls as an assistant coach.
