Pearson Punches Out 12 In Saturday Loss

Jonathan Timm

Muskegon, MI: A late stretch of crooked numbers from the Xenia Scouts (7-6) delivered the Muskegon Clippers (5-9) a 14-2 mercy rule loss in eight innings on a windy Saturday, June 22nd at Historic Marsh Field.

The Clippers struggled to get outs in the sixth, seventh and eighth inning, while the Scouts sent 26 batters to the plate during that stretch and scored 12 of their 14 runs to pull away.

Aidan Pearson had a productive 5.1 innings of work. Despite allowing five earned runs and five hits in his loss, Pearson struck out 12 Scouts during his outing while walking a pair. The Clippers sent five different arms to the mound when relief work was needed.

Defensively, the Clippers struggled to combat the wind with the leather, recording five errors. Additionally, seven wild pitches and two passed balls contributed to Xenia’s run production

The Scouts scored their 14 runs off of those miscues along with 12 hits and walking seven times.

Xenia’s starter Oliver Adams was the winning pitcher, recording nine strikeouts while allowing two earned runs off seven hits and two walks in his six inning outing.

A leadoff opposite field homerun from Ayden Alsobrooks made it 1-0 in the top of the first. The Clippers responded in the bottom of the second with a Cole LeClair RBI single.

It was 1-1 in the third before the Scouts capitalized on a wild throw to first base on a double play attempt from the Clip’s infield. Everything was tied up an inning and a half later after Jack Bakus snuck a solo home run of the season over the left center field wall to make it 2-2.

The Scouts went on to score the twelve unanswered runs.

The Clippers will look to take the series in a rubber match on Sunday, June 22nd in the series finale at Marsh Field
