Locos win eighth title after 8-6 win over Joes

LIMA LOCOS 11 MUSKEGON CLIPPERS 0 - FINAL/7 Innings
SIMMONS FIELD - Three Lima pitchers combined to no-hit the Muskegon Clippers in an 11-0 mercy rule game on Saturday night at Simmons Field.
Evan Shapiro (Ball State transfer) set the tone pitching the first four innings in dominating fashion. Shapiro only threw 65 pitches but made every one of them count. He only allowed two base runners striking out eight batters in the process.

Shaprio handed off to his college teammate Brady Fitzpatrick who also kept the Muskegon batters on skates. Fitzpatrick went two innings in relief striking out three batters and allowing just one walk.
Stetson Callaway (Abilene Christian) finished off the Clippers strikeout out two batters in the seventh and final inning securing the combined no hitter.
The Locos offense batted around in the third inning scoring eight runs on just three hits.
Braydon Kersey (Mercer University) hit a towering tape measure home run that bounced into the tree line past the right field fence.
What happened next put the game out of reach as seven consecutive Locos batters reached base on free passes. The first six were walked by two different Clippers pitchers and a seventh was hit by a pitch. When all was said and done Lima sent 14 batters to the plate.
Lima scored three more runs in the sixth inning secure the 10-run mercy rule.
The two teams finished up the three game series with Locos going for a sweep at Simmons Field. First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 5:05pm in Lima.
GRAND LAKE MARINERS 13 HAMILTON JOES 6
FOUNDATION FIELD - The Grand Lake Mariners returned the favor with a blow out win on the road spoiling the Hamilton Joes home opener with a 13-6 win at Foundation Field.
Grand Lake suffered a tough loss the night before in its first game in front the home fans. The Mariners broke a 6-6 tie scoring seven runs in the eighth inning on its way to the victory.
Both teams had to battle the elements as it rained throughout most of the game.
Three costly Hamilton errors opened the flood gates as the Mariners only needed one hit during the eighth inning.
Grand Lake reliever Abe DeLano (Northern Kentucky) pitched the final two and 1/3 innings earning the win for the Mariners. DeLano recorded three strikeouts in the seven outs the he recorded.
Salvatore Besztery (University of Rochester) led the balanced Grand Lake offensive attack. Besztery was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double reaching base in four out his five plate appearances. He also drove in two RBIs and scored two runs.
The Hamilton offense was efficient scoring it six runs on six hits. The Joes were burning up the base paths with nine stolen bases, three for Christopher Roa (Miami) and two by Jaxson Christ (Lake Erie).
The series shifts back to Celina for the rubber game of the series as the finale will take place Sunday at Montgomery Field at 4:05pm.
MICHIGAN MONARCHS 7 FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 3
MARATHON DIAMONDS - The Michigan Monarchs improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-3 road victory over the upstate Flag City Sluggers.
The Monarchs were leading 4-2 the when they scored three runs in the eighth inning. Manny Gutierrez (Henry Ford CC) provided the spark with a two-run double plating Ben Brittingham (Hanover College) and Wyatt Epple (Davenport University). Gutierrez scored on an RBI-single by Cannon Paul (Western Michigan).
The Sluggers answered in the bottom half of the inning but it wasn’t enough to make the comeback. Andrew Stechschulte (Ohio Northern) led off with a triple and scored on a squeeze bunt laid down by Cameron Baker (Lincoln Trail).
The series will shift to Hill Stadium & TFO Partners Field on the campus of Hillsdale College. The Monarchs go for the sweep in its home opener while the Sluggers try to secure its first ever franchise win.
SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 17 XENIA SCOUTS 7 - FINAL/8 Innings
BOB WREN STADIUM - The Southern Ohio Copperheads secured its first win of the season with a 17-7, 8-inning victory over the Xenia Scouts.
The Copperheads fans were able to enjoy the walk-off win in the eighth inning. Ronnie Rowley (Hocking College) tripled driving home Billy Adams (Tiffin University) for the 10-run lead.
Southern Ohio benefitted from two huge offensive innings scoring five runs in the fourth and seven more times in the sixth.
Haruta Endo (Minnesota West CC) went 3-for-5 scoring three runs from the leadoff position in the Southern Ohio batting order.
Jack Ferguson (Indiana Tech) drove in three RBIs and Derek Occhipinti (University of Akron) provided two doubles for the Copperheads.
Carter Jackman (Mississippi College) led the way for the Xenia offensive attack going 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBIs.
The two teams will go for the series victory on Sunday at the Xenia Athletes in Action Sports Complex at 5:05pm.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
