Wild Hockey Academy's 18U Team Finishes with 21 Wins
Date: Apr 1, 2025
BURNABY, B.C. - The Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy teams won only one game this past weekend, but for 16-and-Under goaltender Keegan Bradshaw, nothing in Sunday's game at Burnaby Winter Club could have gone better.
Bradshaw stopped all 48 shots he saw in a 2-0 win on Sunday morning, giving the Wild Hockey Academy a win in a weekend where a couple of bounces could have easily ended in a three-game sweep. Friday's game saw Coeur d'Alene Hockey Academy pull through for a 5-4 victory, despite a three-goal first period from Wenatchee. Aidan Yu scored back-to-back goals on the same shift just 36 seconds apart to close out the opening stanza.
After picking up assists on all three Wenatchee goals Friday, Sean Strasser finished with a goal and an assist in a 5-3 loss to Burnaby Winter Club on Saturday, before Yu scored both goals in Sunday's win.
"I thought they played really well, winning 2-0 with the empty-netter," said Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy director Troy Mick. "We've never beaten Burnaby Winter Club before, so those were very, very positive things for our club. They had three good games, and they could have won all three, but we finished with a bang."
The 18U squad dropped a pair of competitive games on the weekend, taking a 4-2 loss Saturday in which Otaro Inoue scored both Wenatchee goals, and a 5-2 final on Sunday in which Inoue and Geon Park scored the team's two goals.
As the Wild Hockey Academy prepares for its games this weekend, the program also received news from USA Hockey early this week that the Academy's four teams had been approved for Tier I status for the next two seasons, making the program eligible for district and national postseason competition through the spring of 2027. Next season will be Wenatchee's second with Washington state's only USA Hockey-certified 15-Only team.
“We are excited to be the only program in the state that offers all four teams at the Tier I level, from 14U to 18U,” said Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy director Troy Mick. “The players have a great development path here in Wenatchee. You can start here at the 14U level, and play all the way to 18U. We are also the only program to have a WHL team in our building, with the Wenatchee Wild, so the exposure to high-level hockey is phenomenal. That in itself is a great learning tool for development.”
The 14U and 15O teams will return to the ice for practices this weekend, while the 16U and 18U teams both return to Canada for CSSHL play. Saturday and Sunday will see the North Shore Warriors host the Wild 18U team for a pair of games, while the 16U team plays one game Saturday evening at Delta Hockey Academy.
