The fourth-seeded Southampton Breakers beat the top-seeded Sag Harbor Whalers in Game 1 of the HCBL Semifinals by a score of 7-1 at Mashashimuet Park.

The Whalers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout from Teddy Cashman (Lafayette) to take a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Southampton would take the lead with two on and two out Aidan Barry (Villanova) hit a three-run home run to take a 3-1 lead.

The Breakers increased their lead to 5-1 in the top of the fifth on a two-run single hit by Ty Gilligan (Dominican).

Southampton would add two more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-1 lead. It would be enough run support for starting pitcher Zach Karson (Fordham) who went 6.2 innings allowing an unearned run on three hits.

Game 2 of the HCBL Semifinals will take place on Friday at 4 PM at Southampton High School with the Breakers needing a win to advance to the HCBL Championship Series for the second time in four seasons while the Whalers try to force a Game 3.
