Sag Harbor 6, Shelter Island 2

The Sag Harbor Whalers came from behind on Sunday at Fiske Field in Shelter Island, scoring six runs in the top of the seventh to beat the Shelter Island Bucks by a final score of 6-2.

Shelter Island took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from John Gannon (St. Lawrence) however, he’d be thrown out trying to advance to second base, ending the inning for the Bucks.

Shelter Island would add another run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead but the Bucks would fail to capitalize on a potential big inning despite having the bases loaded and one out.

Eric Wallick (Vassar), who came on in relief for Sag Harbor in the fourth, would get a force out at home plate and a fly out to keep the score at 2-0 Bucks.

In the top of the seventh, Sag Harbor loaded the bases with one out as Dylan Kennedy-Fujah (St. John’s) stepped up to bat, and he hit a two-run ground-rule double, tying the game at 2-2.

After a passed ball scored Will Darrell (Vassar) to give the Whalers the lead, Jaxon Beiswenger (Bucknell) hit a two-run single, putting Sag Harbor ahead by a score of 5-2.

Jake Walman (Seton Hall) would bring in the sixth and final Whaler run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly that scored Beiswenger. Ethan Righter (Hamilton) pitched a scoreless seventh inning, giving the Whalers their first win of the season. Everett Garber (Bucknell), who pitched the sixth inning for the Whalers, earned the win in relief.

North Fork 9, South Shore 4

Joey Citrangola (Herkimer County CC) pitched four no-hit innings for the North Fork Ospreys as they defeated the South Shore Clippers on the road by a score of 9-4 at William Floyd High School.

North Fork jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second getting their first run on an RBI single by Rocco Cimino (Pace). Vincent Mariniello (Franklin & Marshall) followed with a two-run single, making the score 3-0.

The Ospreys increased the score to 5-0 in the following inning on a two-run single hit by Trevor Dosenbach (Richmond). Nick Pratt (UMBC) would come off the bench in the fourth inning with a pinch-hit RBI single that gave North Fork a 6-0 lead.

South Shore would take advantage of a couple of walks and wild pitches thrown by Citrangola as they would score three runs in the bottom of the fourth, despite not getting a hit, cutting the score in half to 6-3.

The Clippers would get their first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Following a leadoff walk by AJ Mitchell (Dominican) to Ryan Hillery (St. Thomas Aquinas), Justin Wilkinson (Adelphi) got South Shore’s first hit with a single to left field.

Anthony Rigogliosi (Adelphi) would walk to load the bases for Anthony Armenia (Bridgeport) who hit into an RBI fielder’s choice that scored Hillery, cutting the score to 6-4.

North Fork would put the game away in the seventh inning, scoring three runs highlighted by a two-run single from Pratt, who finished the day with three RBI. Diego Reilly-Bell (Fordham) pitched a scoreless seventh to preserve the win for the Ospreys.

Kyle Bailey (Dickinson) would give the Aviators the last two runs of the inning on a single putting the Aviators up 5-3.

Southampton would cut the score to 5-4 in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run by Nick Slogik (Rowan College at Gloucester). The Aviators would then come in to bat in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of patient hitting as they would draw eight walks.
