Jurassic Loss To Scouts On 7/1

Bob Wren Stadium – The Southern Ohio Copperheads won against the Grand Lake Mariners. The Copperheads had an all-around well played ball game, a true team effort, taking advantage of their opportunities on both sides of the ball.
Grand Lake was first to take the lead in the top of the third scoring two runs. With two outs, Jackson Taylor had a single up the middle, advancing to second after Aiden Booth was hit by a pitch. Stephan Di Corrado had a double in the left center gap, scoring two runs, but was thrown out trying to stretch the double into a triple.
The Copperheads scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth off one hit. With two outs, Charlie Longmeier advanced to first off a walk, and stole second to be in scoring position for Billy Adams. Adams delivered with a single up the middle, reaching second on the throw from Mariners’ center fielder, scoring Longmeier.
In the top of the fifth, Grand Lake tacked on two more runs on two hits. With two outs, Austyn Peak reached first on a walk. Taylor had a single over second, splitting the runners at first and third. Booth delivered with a two RBI double in the right field corner: bringing the score to 1-4.
Southern Ohio answered in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs on two hits. With one out, Pauly Mancio advanced to first off an error from the Mariners third baseman, making his way to second off the overthrow. Aiden Dunlap had a single between third and shortstop to score Mancio. Dunlap stole both second and third, keeping the runners split after a walk for Ben Clark. Michael Budorick had a single to drive in Mariners second baseman to score Dunlap.
In the top of the sixth, Grand Lake added two more runs; the score being 3-6. Ty Davis started the inning reaching first off a walk. Edwin Bowman IV had a line drive single right over the glove of Copperheads’ third baseman. Cameron Bryant had a fielder’s choice ground ball to shortstop splitting the runners at first and third. Andrew Kell had a right-side single between Copperheads’ first and second baseman to score Davis. Brayton Bowen scored Bryant on a single to right.
The Copperheads tied the game at 6 in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Alex Ungar had a single to diving Mariners’ shortstop to start the rally. Ungar stole second and scored off a single from Joey Canzoni; Canzoni advanced to second on a throwing error from Grand Lake shortstop. Mancino had a line drive double up the middle to score Canzoni. Mancino stole third and scored off a single up the middle from Ben Clark.
Southern Ohio took the lead in the bottom of the seventh, adding on four more runs and bringing the score to 10-6. Case Sullivan started the inning with a walk. Sullivan made his way to first off a wild pitch and an error from the Mariners’ pitcher. Adams followed, reaching first after being hit by a pitch; stealing second to get into scoring position. With two runners in scoring position, Ungar filled the bases with a walk. Canzoni was hit by a pitch to score Sullivan. During Macino’s at-bat Adams and Ungar both scored on a passed ball. Dunlap’s single to third scored Canzoni and the final run of the inning.
The Mariners added their final run of the game in the top of the eighth inning. With one out, Bryant advanced to first on a walk. Bowen also reached first on a walk, putting two runners on base with two outs. Peak followed by being hit by a pitch, and Taylor’s walk scored Bryant.
The Copperheads added insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, scoring three runs off one hit and two errors: bringing the final score to 13-7. Alejandro Covas started the inning with a single between first and second. Adams followed with a walk. Covas advanced to third, splitting the runners on a flyout from Ungar to center field. Canzoni had a ground ball to third, advancing to second on a throwing error; the play scored both Covas and Adams. Canzoni followed by making his way home on a passed ball.
Grand Lake used four pitchers for the night; combining for ten strikeouts, ten walks, and giving up thirteen hits and thirteen runs. Southern Ohio used three pitchers on the night, combining for five strikeouts, six walks, and giving up ten hits and seven runs on the night.
For the Copperheads, Adams, Ungar, Canzoni, Dunlap and Clark each had two hits on the night. Eight different Copperheads players contributed to the hits column for the game.
Southern Ohio will be traveling to Montgomery Field July 3rd to face the Mariners at 7:05 p.m.
