The Save-On-Foods Parksville Royals are pleased to announce that 8 of 9 graduating Royals will move on to play college ball this September. Over the course of the Royals 29 year history, 102 players have realized their goals to play college and professional baseball. The Royals are honoured to provide this opportunity to youth on the Island and across BC. “I’m proud of the guys moving on,” said head coach Frank Kaluzniak. “They will all be successful at the next level and I wish them the best moving forward in their careers.”
- Tyler Kolopenuk of Nanaimo will join the Skyline College Trojans of San Bruno, California. Kolopenuk played nearly every inning of the Royals’ season at shortstop and dazzled opposing teams and fans alike with his range and arm. Tyler put together 10 multi-hit games over the regular season and was an absolute force to be reckoned with over the playoffs hitting .438/.524/.500 with 3 walks and only 2 K’s in 21 plate appearances on the way to the Royals’ silver medal. During his time with the Royals, Kolopenuk also received the General Manager's Development Award in 2022, awarded to the player judged to have improved his game the most over their time with the Royals program.

- Breydan Riecker of Campbell River has committed to the University of Victoria Golden Tide. The everyday center fielder and penultimate lead-off man, Riecker finished the season with 27 runs scored and tied for second in the BCPBL for most Quality-At-Bats with 90. His advanced approach at the plate resulted in a .412 on-base % with 27 walks compared to only 14 strikeouts in 168 plate appearances. Breydan carried his electric offence into the playoffs with a .476 OBP and 6 runs scored. Riecker also received the Coaches Award for Commitment to the Royals philosophy for his efforts in the 2023 season. The Coach's Award for Commitment to Royals Philosophy is awarded to the player who embodies the Royals philosophy of hard work, a team-first attitude, and a willingness to work both on & off the field for the betterment of the Royals program.

- Landon Bowers of Campbell River will join the Vancouver Island University Mariners this September. Bowers split his time between the outfield and infield throughout the season, giving Coach Kaluzniak a strong versatile option where needed. Landon finished the season tied for second in the BCPBL for most Quality-At-Bats with 90 and posted an impressive .433 on-base with 34 hits and 26 walks against just 17 strike-outs in 151 plate appearances.

- Thomas Plant of Courtenay will head to California and play for the Cabrillo College Hawks. Plant brought power to the line—up with 3 home runs and his 30 RBI’s were good for 4th in the BCPBL. Thomas patrolled right field with a strong and accurate arm recording 2 assists and no errors over the season. Plant was on fire in the playoffs driving in 10 runs on the strength of a .588 slugging percent in the biggest games and against the toughest competition of the season.

- Keitaro Adachi of Comox has committed to Williston State College in North Dakota for the 2024 season. Adachi was the leader behind the plate displaying strong defence, pitch-calling, and receiving. Keitaro caught 24% of stolen base attempts this season. Adachi’s return from injury on July 8 helped power the Royals to a 7 game winning streak to finish the season. Keitaro was also the recipient of the General Manager's Development Award in 2021. The General Manager's Development Award is awarded to the player judged to have improved his game the most over their time with the Royals program.

- Jakin Rohne of Courtenay will join the University of Victoria Golden Tide. Rohne was a workhouse for the Royals this season, working deep in games and averaging 5.2 innings in his starts. Jakin’s longevity came as a result of his strong strike zone command as he averaged only 3.4 pitches per batter faced. Rohne’s final start of the season was right in line as he threw a complete game victory allowing 2 runs, striking out 4, and walking none. On July 15, Jakin was awarded the David Wallace Memorial Scholarship, granted based on the candidate’s baseball ability, academic assessment, and participation in the Royals program.

- Parker McBurnie of Prince George has committed to the Prairie Baseball Academy at the University of Lethbridge. McBurnie led the team in on-base + slugging with a .922 performance. Parker was second on the team with 25 runs scored to go along with 9 doubles and 3 triples. McBurnie continued his dominance in the playoffs with a .474 on-base and 6 runs scored. In addition, McBurnie came up huge on the mound in the semi-finals, throwing 6 shut-out innings on his way to the victory and punching the Royals ticket to the provincial championship final. Parker’s awards include the 2022 Tyler Phillips Memorial Award, presented to the outstanding first year player.

- Liam McNamee of Courtenay will join the University of Victoria Golden Tide this September. McNamee, the staff innings leader in 2022 was sidelined by injury this past season. Building to recovery, Liam hopes to build on his most recent campaign where he struck out 54 batters in 51 innings of work.

The Parksville Royals Baseball Club is pleased to announce that our Try-outs for the 2024 season will begin with the Fall and Winter Program, running from Sep 5th 2023 to Feb 29th 2024. This is an incredible opportunity for players to further develop their skills and learn more about playing in the BC Premier Baseball League (PBL) "Canada's best high school baseball league!"
