Valley Blanks Danbury to Retake West Division Lead

The Valley Blue Sox defeated the Danbury Westerners by a score of 2-0. The team holds a record of 10-12 and has regained the West Division lead with this victory.

 

The team scored its two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Will Gale hit a leadoff single followed by two walks from Michael Zarrillo and Jeff Pierantoni to load the bases with one out. Mason Wolf grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Gale, then Matt Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to score Zarrillo.

 

Ben Roberts started the game for the Blue Sox and shined, tossing five shutout innings while allowing only one hit. The right hander struck out four batters earning the victory.

 

Kurt Thomas relieved Roberts in the top of the sixth inning. The right hander threw one scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

 

The ball was then turned over to two-way player Cian Sahler, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout.

 

Michael Weidinger closed the door for the Blue Sox, pitching two scoreless innings, to complete the shutout and earn himself the save. Weidinger also added two strikeouts to his total.

 

After an off day on Independence Day, the Blue Sox will hit the road Wednesday night to take on the Upper Valley Nighthawks at 6:30 P.M.
