Blazers take the Right Trail for the Game of the Week Win

Date:  Source: South Florida Collegiate Baseball League

The rain luckily held off and we were able to get in 9 innings of interrupted baseball. Friday night was a beautiful night for the game of the week, just the second game of the week we this season. The Boca Raton Blazers beat the Boynton Beach Buccaneers on their home turf, at Harry Gribbon, 6 to 3.

While it was a pretty one-sided game at first, the bottom of the 9th inning brought some excitement. The Bucs finally got on the board after being held scoreless for 8 innings. While Angelo Bartziokas allowed 3 runs off of 3 hits in the ninth inning, it was too little too late for the Bucs.

Carlos Jacome and Blake Pitts were the top batters tonight for the Blazers. Jacome went 1 for 3 with a run and 2 RBIs. Pitts was 1 for 2, but was able to score 3 times on a double, a walk, and a hit by pitch. The Blazers are seeming to mesh well together even though it's still early in the season

Skylar Gonzalez was our player of the game tonight. The right-handed pitcher from the University of Tampa pitched 6 scoreless innings scattering 4 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Austin Mastoff relieved Gonzalez pitching 1 inning, allowing 1 hit, with 1 strikeout. Then Angelo Bartziokas, despite giving up 3 runs, closed it out, pitching the final two innings.

The Blazers kept their win streak alive.  After dropping the opener, they have now rattled off 7 straight wins and are 7 and 1 on the season. The Bucs move to 2 and 5 on the season but they get two more chances at the Blazers.  The Blazers and the Buccaneers will face off again tomorrow in a doubleheader at 10 am at Harry Gribbon.
