Hockey / OHA Officials Selected for 2022 USPORTS Hockey Championships

OHA Officials Selected for 2022 USPORTS Hockey Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Ont. – Officiating in important games is nothing new to both officials. Schein, who has been an official since 2006, has a number of impressive highlights under his belt. He officiated the OJHL Buckland Cup Championships in 2016, 2017, 2018, the World Jr. A Challenge in Dawson Creek BC in 2019, and the recent OUA Queens Cup hosted by Brock University.

Bannerman has been officiated for 26 years. His father, who is a Level 6 Hockey Canada official, was his inspiration to get into officiating. He started off like most officials doing house league hockey at 6:30am on Saturday mornings and even got to work with his dad for the first few seasons of his career. He has officiated three (3) Queens Cups (the most recent with Schein), as well as two (2) two U Sports National Championships (in 2017 & 2019).

Both officials are honoured to be selected to work at this prestigious event.

“To say I am honored to be selected for this assignment would be an understatement,” Schein said.  “Being recognized for my hard work and contributions in the league proves that my dedication has been well worth it and is a compliment in the highest form. I am proud of the work that I have done to get here and I am thankful for the mentors that I have had along the way, without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.  I am proud to represent the OHA and OUA at the USports Men's Championship along with some of the most talented officials in Canada.”

“Being selected is a tremendous honour to represent the OHA/OUA and Hockey Canada at this event,” Bannerman said. “We (Schein) represent many other officials in our hockey officiating program. I'm excited for the challenge and the competitiveness of this tournament. We've waited a long time throughout this pandemic for playoff hockey, it’s finally here and there is no better time to be around the arena as a hockey fan and official.”
