Sellers throws first no-hitter in Moo history in 3-0 victory over Western Nebraska

For the first time in Fremont Moo history, Trent Sellers pitched a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over the Western Nebraska Pioneers (32-16). The Lewis and Clark State pitcher threw 136 pitches in his complete game, striking out 13.

The Moo (35-15) scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning, as Peyton Leeper led off with a bloop single to centerfield. Dillon Sears then drew a walk with a full count, and Tyler Push singled to load the bases for Austin Baskin. Pioneers shortstop Jarred Mazzaferro mishandled Baskin’s chopper, and Leeper scored on the error for the Moo’s first run. Then, Sears scored on a wild pitch during EJ Taylor’s at-bat to give the Moo a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Moo added one more run, as Taylor led off the frame with an infield single. Jack Simonsen then followed with a single of his own to left field. Trey Nichols then dropped a single into shallow right-centerfield, scoring Taylor.

Although the main storyline of the season, Fremont’s offense took a backseat for the night to Sellers’ historical performance on the bump. Baskin topped the Moo bats with two hits, an RBI and a stolen base while six Moo players contributed one hit each.

The Moo will return home Saturday at 7:05 PM against the Spearfish Sasquatch. Tune into Nate Rohr and Zach Berman’s broadcast on FremontMoo.com and Big Dog 98.9 FM and 1340 AM.
