The Expedition League’s 2021 Broadcaster of the Year, for the second year in a row, is Max Tanzer with the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs. Max is from Mercer Island, Washington and he attends Ithaca College in New York, studying Sports Media. The Expedition League was fortunate to have a lot of good broadcasters in 2021 and Max was again at the top of the League. Max's right hand man throughout the summer, Ballard Ackaway, played a big role in the production of the teams broadcast. He was in charge of creating and updating graphics for the livestream as well as directing graphics and camera angles throughout each home game. Ballard is from Dunwoody, Georgia and is a Journalism major at the University of Georgia. The work the Max and Ballard put in this summer proved to be worth the effort as the Sabre Dogs had the most viewers of any team in the Expedition League.
“Max Tanzer returned to Minot for round two as the voice of the Sabre Dogs and as the reigning Broadcaster of the Year in the Expedition League”, said Brett Schweitzer, Assistant General Manager of the Sabre Dogs. “The experience and success that Max gained over the last two summers laid the groundwork for where he plans to go with his broadcasting career. In the last two seasons, Tanzer has called 116 Sabre Dogs baseball games, which is something not many college students have under their belt. Like the opening scene to The Sandlot, when Max is calling games at the professional level, he can look over to the picture on the wall and remember where it all started for him in Minot, North Dakota.”
"Ballard Ackaway put in a lot of time and effort to enhanced the Sabre Dogs broadcast for the fans watching online and set the standard for how a broadcast should operate in the Expedition League. He studied what national television productions were doing around the country and incorporated similar graphics into our livestream. " Said AGM, Brett Schweitzer. "We made it a priority to enhance our broadcast for viewers this summer which is why we added a production intern to focus on the livestream specifically. Ballard went above and beyond to make our production something special."
