The Cape Catfish hosted the Springfield Sliders and 757 guests at Capaha Park on Friday, July 2.
The Catfish were quick to put a run on the board in the bottom of the first inning by number 2 Dalton McNamara. The ‘Fish scored another run in the third, three runs in the fifth, and one in the bottom of the eighth. The Sliders didn’t score until the top of the third, where they put three runs across. The Sliders scored three runs again in the top of the fifth and one in the top of the eighth.
Cape’s Giovanni Del Negro hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game 6-6 and was followed by a home run from the first hit in the top of the eighth by the Sliders’ Nick Jones. The Catfish followed suit in the bottom of the eighth with a home run from Josh Caraway, which is his first of the season. Andrew Stone put the ‘Fish ahead with the second home run in the bottom of the eighth, the fourth in the game. Zach Wilson scored for the Sliders in the top of the ninth to even the score 8-8 and put the game into extra innings.
A single to right field by Cameron Rountree in the bottom of the eleventh inning sent Ellison Hanna over home plate for a final score of 9-8. The Catfish will play at Capaha again on July 10.
