The Big Sticks traveled to Minot to take on the Sabre dogs in their rubber match on Thursday evening.
Starting on the mound for The Big Sticks was Parker Stohr who came into the game with a 4-2 record and sported a 3.67 ERA. Stohr is one of eight Big Sticks selected to the all-star game and showed why in his outing today. He was matched up against Dominick Parkhurst who came into the game 2-0 with a 5.12 ERA.
Although this game was mostly a pitching duel The Sticks offense got started early. Angel De La Cruz ripped a single up the middle in the top of the first to bring in Derek Gellos. At the end of the first it was 1-0 Big Sticks.
Both pitchers were dealing tonight as they held two of the hottest hitting teams scoreless throughout the next four innings.
The next run of the game came off the bat of Wyatt Setian who ripped a double to left center field bringing in Matt Olive. Heading into the bottom of the 6th the score was 2-0 Big Sticks.
Not surprisingly, a storm that started in western North Dakota made its way east into Minot and cut the game short after five full innings. Therefore, the Sticks would take this one 2-0 as your final and win the series.
The pitching in this game was simply fantastic. Stohr upped his record to 5-2 and lowered his ERA to 3.15 after the 5.2 inning shutout. Parkhurst took the loss in this one to make his record 2-1 but was able to lower his era to 4.68 after pitching 5.2 innings of two run ball.
