Hockey / Rebound Plan: Phase 3

Rebound Plan: Phase 3

Date:  Source: Glace Bay Minor Hockey Association

As Nova Scotia plans to move to Phase 3 of its reopening plan effective tomorrow, we have been working with the province to clarify what this means for hockey.

The key changes from Phase 2 to Phase 3 are:

  • Groups of up to 25 are now permitted in the field of play (in Phase 2, groups were limited to 10)
  • Competition is now allowed

Attached to this email, you will also find a graphic (.png and .pdf) that provides a detailed breakdown. We encourage you to work closely with your local facilities throughout these reopening phases. If you have any questions, please contact your local regional director or email info@hockeynovascotia.ca.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR HOCKEY

During Phase 3 of the reopening plan, players, coaches, and officials can practice, train, and compete with up to 25 people in the field of play without social distancing. You are reminded that the field of play refers to the ice surface, team benches, penalty box, timekeeper’s box, and dressing room

Tournaments are still not permitted during Phase 3, but competition is now allowed within the group (of up to 25).

We understand that limiting competition to a group of 25 makes things difficult when it comes to organizing hockey games. We will continue to work with the province to have these group limits increased for the next phases of the reopening plan.

GROUPS

Depending on your local facility’s guidelines, two groups of up to 25 may be permitted in the field of play at the same time provided they remain physically distanced and do not come into contact with one another.

The groups of 25 should remain consistent. You are reminded that the number of groups permitted in the field of play may vary by facility so please check with your local rink.

SPECTATORS

Spectators are permitted but capacities vary by facility. Please check with your local rink.

REBOUND PLAN

During Phase 3, any on-ice sessions or games must follow the Rebound Plan. This means that all on-ice activities must have a safety rep, as well as a screening registry.

MASKS

On the ice, masks are not required during practices, training sessions, and games. Off the ice, masks will be required.

Please note that coaches and instructors who work with more than one group must wear a mask at all times while inside the facility (including while on the ice).

ON THE RIGHT TRACK

Please continue to be vigilant and follow the protocols that are in place as we continue to plan toward a safe 2021-22 hockey season.

As always, we appreciate your support and your dedication to safety. Enjoy the summer!
