The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs continued their winning ways this week as the team took two out of a three-game set against the Hasting Sodbusters. The Sabre Dogs traveled to Hastings on Tuesday where they met for a doubleheader. After winning the first game on Wednesday 7-2, the Sabre Dogs advanced their winning streak to eight games. The streak ended there as the Dogs dropped game two of the doubleheader by a score of 10-8. The Sabre Dogs took care of business the following day, winning the rubber match 7-4 and taking the series in Hastings.
The Sabre Dogs offense was led by Beau Brewer’s five hits and seven RBIs, while also extending his hitting streak in all 26 games this season. Brewer now leads the league in batting average, (.508), hits (60), and runs batted in (44). The Sabre Dogs catchers continue to produce as Taylor Justus and Cullen Hannigan combined for four hits and four runs. Souris Valley’s offense remains the standard of the Expedition League, pacing the league with 257 runs scored, 37 more than second-place Spearfish. On the mound in the last game of the series, Trevor Ernt pitched six full innings allowing only one run. Jaiden Beck contributed with three scoreless innings, notching his first save of the season.
Souris Valley moved to 18-8 on the season and extended their lead to four games in the Lewis Division over the Badlands Big Sticks. The Sabre Dogs will travel to Fremont next for a three-game series, where they will take on a struggling Moo team who has dropped their past five games. Game time is slated for 7:05 pm Central.
