PROSPECT LEAGUE RELEASE
SPRINGFIELD, OH – Trey Carter (Wheelersburg, OH; Rio Grande) has won the Pitcher of the Week award issued by the Prospect League Podcast, giving Champion City back-to-back awards in two weeks with Brent Widder winning this first as the Slugger of the Week.
Carter, the left-handed pitcher and occasional first-baseman for Champion City, made one start and three bullpen appearances in the week. His lone start was in the rubber game at Lafayette, and the lefty delivered a strong five innings, allowing just two hits with zero runs, zero walks, and striking out five Aviators. The Kings would win the series with a 14-7 Sunday victory.
Back home at Carleton Davidson Stadium, Carter appeared in Wednesday’s 5-3 loss to the Terre Haute Rex. Carter pitched two innings, allowing four hits and two walks but allowing no runs again. That following Saturday, Carter appeared against Lafayette for a second time, throwing a clean 1.1 innings while striking out one in the 7-4 Kings win. On Sunday afternoon, Carter made his fourth total appearance in the week against the Chillicothe Paints. In another two frames, Carter walked two but allowed nothing else.
After the four showings to win the award, the left-hander has a 3-0 record in nine total appearances with and one start. His ERA sits at 3.24 with 14 strikeouts, 15 walks, and 26 hits in 25 innings complete.
Champion City finishes off the first half with a two-game set at West Virginia, needing one win to clinch a playoff spot for the first time in Springfield. The Kings are back at home this Friday and Sunday afternoon against the Chillicothe Paints. Visit championcitykings.com for more information on tickets and how to watch the next games on PL TV.
