The Glace Bay U15-AA Miners opened their playoffs with a 5-1 win over the County Islanders Monday Night at the Miners Forum.

It's their first game of a round robin style playoff-format, with the top two teams advancing to a one game showdown.

The Islanders opened the scoring at 4:47 of the first period, but that would be the only goal they would get behind Miners goaltender Brandon Cole.

Glace Bay answered back to tie the game at 7:54 of the first period off the stick of Brady Matheson.

Ty Oliver would give the miners their first lead of the game with 13:27 remaining in the second period. 13 seconds later Brody O'Handley would make it 3-1 Glace Bay.

The miners would add two more goals in the third period off the sticks of Ty Oliver and Josh Gottwald.

The miners will be back in action this weekend in Port Hawkesbury.
