LONGWOOD, FL - You’re not going to see many pitchers put up the type of numbers of our award winner, especially a freshman at that, but Parker Messick isn’t your ordinary pitcher. The freshman from Florida State is our 2020 Cy Young Award Winner!

The ace for the Winter Garden Squeeze finished the season 3-0 with a 0.49 ERA in 18.2 innings on the mound. In that time, he struck out 27 batters, only walking three and only allowing five hits on the season. This was good enough for a 0.44 WHIP and he held hitters to a .083 BAA.

Not a single wild pitch was thrown, and he threw two strikes for every ball he threw. He threw a strike 67.7% of the time, and had 13.26 K/9.

The game that sealed the deal for Messick was his final start of the regular season on July 28th where he threw seven shutout innings against the DeLand Suns, leading his team to a 1-0 victory. He struck out 13 of the 22 batters he faced, walking none and only allowing one hit.

The future is bright for the young southpaw at Florida State.
