Hockey / CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR CLA BOARD POSITION OF ATHLETE’S DIRECTOR – NOV 2020

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR CLA BOARD POSITION OF ATHLETE’S DIRECTOR – NOV 2020

Date:  Source: Canadian Lacrosse Association

To all active national team athletes,

The CLA is inviting nominations for the role of Athlete’s Director on the CLA Board of Directors. This will be for a two‐year term commencing November 2020.

An Athlete Director shall be nominated by National Team athletes and elected by the Members at the CLA Annual Meeting in November 2020.

The CLA BOD determined (in 2018) that for the purposes of providing a nomination, a national team athlete is defined as an individual who was selected and played on one of the last 5 CLA national teams (both male and female). For the 2020 nomination, those that were selected and played on the 2019 U19 WF, 2019 Indoor Box, 2018 MF SR, 2017 WF SR, and 2016 U19 MF, are eligible to submit a nomination. Only athletes (players) can submit, not coaches, directors, managers, or support staff.

Who can be nominated?

The following is the excerpt from the CLA Bylaw s.34:
“......
The Athlete Director will be from the alumni of National Teams, or National Team staff, and elected by the Members. .....”,

As to who is eligible to be nominated, this individual should be someone who the athletes can trust to ensure confidentiality on issues and be able to advocate on their behalf to the Board.

How do I nominate someone?

First contact the individual you wish to nominate to see if they are interested in taking on this role. If they have any questions or concerns, they may contact Jane Clapham (CLA Executive Director) by phone (613 260 2028 x304) or email jane@lacrosse.ca

If they are willing to have you put their name forward, then please email their contact information (name, address, phone number, and email address) to Jane Clapham (CLA Executive Director) at jane@lacrosse.ca who will acknowledge and follow‐up with the individual to confirm their nomination.

When is the deadline to submit a nomination?

The deadline to submit nominations for the position of Athlete Director is October 16, 2020 (30 days prior to the Annual Meeting on November 14, 2020) as per Policy 9.2.1.

All nominations, including nomination form and resume, must be submitted to Findley Wilson, Chair, Nominations Committee (findleywilson@gmail.com) and Jane Clapham, Executive Director (jane@lacrosse.ca).

As a current national team player, this is an important step in having a voice on the decisions that affect the national team program, and to have an individual, act as an Ombudsman, in representing them personally, in a confidential and private way on issues that may occur.

I encourage you to seriously give this matter your thought and attention. Again, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact Jane Clapham at 613‐ 260‐2028 x304 or by email at jane@lacrosse.ca Thank you.

Yours in lacrosse,

Jane Clapham
