HARBOR CITY, Calif. - CSUN became the third team in the 10 year history of the West Coast Hockey Conference to finish with a perfect regular season Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Loyola Marymount.

The Matadors won all eight conference games to join Northern Arizona who went 6-0 during the 2012-13 season and Arizona State who finished 8-0 as well in the 2015-16 season.

After a scoreless first period John Michael Laurin put CSUN up with a goal 48 seconds into the middle frame. Laurin received a pass from Quentin Abaya in the left circle and beat Jason Footlick with a wrist shot. LMU tied the game at 4:43 during 4-on-4 play. Vincent Sepe made the initial save but Brian Clem poked home the loose puck through the five hole. CSUN got the lead back with 2:14 to play. Alex Marbach picked up another pass from Abaya in the slot and scored top shelf.

The Loins got a power play with 11:56 remaining in the third period but couldn't score. After killing off a penalty of their own at the three minute mark the Lions could never get the puck past the red line and only had time to pull Footlick with under 10 seconds to play.

Sepe improved his overall record to 11-0-1-1 and is now 5-0-0-1 against LMU.

Both teams finished 0-for-2 on the power play.

CSUN reached the 20 win mark for just the fourth time since at least the 2004-05 season and also won all 11 true road games.

The WCHC playoffs are next weekend. The Matadors are trying for conference records with a potential fifth consecutive championship game appearance and fourth straight title. CSUN received the only bye in the first round and will play the lowest seeded winner on Saturday in the semifinals at 6 p.m.
