LAKEWOOD, Calif. - CSUN led the entire game Saturday and stayed undefeated in conference play sweeping Long Beach State with an 8-3 victory.

The Matadors are now 7-0 in the West Coast Hockey Conference and are one win away from becoming the third team in the 10 year history of the league to finish with a perfect regular season record.

Geno Norraik and Nik Giers each scored two goals while Grayson Szumilas earned his third career hat trick.

Szumilas opened the scoring at 11:48 of the first period beating Adam Moroz five hole. Norraik doubled the lead about seven minutes later with a wrist shot top shelf.

Szumilas potted his second just 1:55 into the middle frame. Long Beach State got into the game at 15:20 with a power play goal by Nick Schrepfer. But the Matadors made sure to have a comfortable lead heading to the dressing room thanks to back-to-back goals. Christian Parks made it 4-1 at 8:37. Giers gave CSUN its biggest lead about six minutes later.

Schrepfer was a one-man show for The Beach and made things very interesting with back-to-back goals of his own to narrow the gap to 5-3. His hat trick goal was scored shorthanded off of a face-off. But once again the Matadors proved to be too much scoring the final three goals of the game. Giers scored his second at 6:00 during 4-on-4 play. Norraik followed suit with another 4-on-4 goal 1:42 later. Finally Szumilas recorded the hat trick scoring another five hole goal with just 35 seconds left. Szumilas also jumped ahead of Norraik for the team lead in goals with his 23rd of the season.

Vincent Sepe earned his tenth win of the season in 12 starts by making 29 saves. Sepe is now 10-0-1-1 overall.

CSUN is still undefeated in regulation at 19-0-1-2 and is also perfect through 10 true road games.

Up next is perhaps the biggest test of the season on Friday against perennial West Region power Northern Colorado. CSUN is currently ranked 10th while UNC sits just outside the Regionals picture at No. 13. The Matadors will celebrate their seniors after the game. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:15 p.m.
