Matadors Set Tryout Dates

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - CSUN swept the two game series against Utah Valley Saturday with another double digit victory 15-2.
Nik Giers and Christian Parks led the way with each recording hat tricks. For the forward/defenseman hybrid Giers it was his first hat trick since transferring from UNLV last season while Parks earned his third career three goal game.
The Matadors led 6-0 after the opening 20 minutes thanks to goals from Parks, Grayson Szumilas, Matt Hoover on the power play, Giers, Szumilas again and Quentin Abaya. It was Hoover's first career goal on the man advantage.
Just 20 seconds into the second period Zach Carnes made it 7-0. Seven seconds after the mid way mark of the game John Michael Laurin scored on the power play. The Wolverines finally scored their first goal of the series at 7:09 after Jack Titter relieved Caleb Mead in net with an unassisted goal from Tanner Walker. Only 19 seconds later Utah Valley made it 8-2 with a goal from Elden Brower. But CSUN got the seven goal lead back with Giers second goal.
The Matadors scored all six goals in the third period. Parks potted his second of the game followed by Alex Marbach, Dante Thorne, Parks, Giers and finally Nick Schwartz shorthanded. It was Schwartz's first career shorthanded goal.
Mead earned the victory with 30 minutes of shutout hockey. Mead is now 7-0-0-1 on the season. Titter gave up two goals over the second half.
CSUN's win streak now stands at 11 games.
On special teams the Matadors went 2-for-4 while Utah Valley came up empty on four power play chances as well.
CSUN resumes West Coast Hockey Conference play Saturday at rival Long Beach State. Puck drop is at 8 p.m.
