MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. - CSUN scored six goals in the third period Thursday to come from behind and beat Washington 6-3.

Nik Giers finally opened the scoring for the Matadors at 17:12 of the final frame. Just 2:01 later Giers scored again on the power play to tie the game at two. John Michael Laurin gave CSUN its first lead at 10:54. Patrick Costa came out of the net to stick check the puck away from Christian Parks. They slid into each other and Laurin had a wide open net. But the Huskies were able to get even 1:51 later when Konsta Jaske also scored a man up with a point shot.

The rapid scoring continued only 47 seconds later when Laurin potted what proved to be the game winner and his second of the period. Eli Berengut was able to give the Matadors some breathing room with a bar down slap shot from the left circle at 7:46. That capped off a stretch of four goals in 3:08. Matt Bushton put the game away at 3:57 with a slap shot from the point on the power play.

It was the second most goals scored by the Matadors in a single period this season. They have scored seven goals in a second and third period.

The Matadors are still undefeated in regulation this season with an overall record of 9-0-1-2. They are also undefeated when trailing after two periods with a record of 3-0-0-1.

The first period was a bit of a sleepy one with no goals, no penalties and few scoring chances.

But things picked up in the second when the Huskies opened the scoring. Trevor Garrood beat Vincent Sepe almost at the half way point of the game. Jaske scored his first goal of the game at 3:12 to double the lead.

Sepe improved his record to 5-0-1-1 and beat Washington for the second time in his career.

The Matadors went 2-for-2 on the power play while the Huskies finished 1-for-3.

This was the fifth ever game between the two schools. While CSUN is 2-0 against Washington at home they finally were able to beat the Huskies on the road or in a neutral setting.

The road trip continues Friday up in Bellingham. The Matadors take on Western Washington at 7 p.m.
