Rocks Comeback Falls Short, Lakers Win 8-6

Date:  Source: CLA Mann Cup

Lacrosse is a sport based on swings and runs. Sometimes those runs can be the difference in the game, and that could be easily be said in Game 4 of the 2019 Mann Cup. The Victoria Shamrocks outscored the Peterborough Lakers 4-1 in the final half of the game, but in the end, the Lakers held on to take Game 4 by a score of 8-6. With the win, Peterborough now has a 3-1 series lead with Game 5 Wednesday night.

Since not scoring in Game 1, Kyle Buchanan has scored five goals and eight assists in the last three games. He had a goal and three assists in Game 4 and is tied for 4th in Mann Cup scoring this year. His teammate, Shawn Evans, is first in Mann Cup scoring this year and is now second on the all-time Mann Cup scoring list with 175 points in 42 career games. He’s now 28 points away from John Tavares for first place.

Leading the Shamrocks in goals was Chris Wardle, who had two on the night. Four different players, including Wardle, had two points on the night. The big story was Tyler Burton struggling in the faceoffs as he was 4-13 in the draws. Ben McCullough went 1-5 in the circle as the Rocks are .302 in faceoffs against the Lakers. Another significant factor in the game was Cody Hagedorn coming in to replace Pete Dubenski in the second period. In relief of Dubes, Hagz stopped all 17 of Peterborough’s shots in the second and third periods. If he starts in Game 5, it would be his first start since July 27.

Game 5 of the 2019 Mann Cup Presented by Island Savings will go Wednesday night at The Q Centre. Tickets are still available for purchase while you can see every game live on WLA TV
