Two-Day Event Marks HCBL Opening Day 2024
Date: Apr 12, 2024
Joshua Becker (UMass Lowell) was one of the top closers in the HCBL in 2019 and helped lead the Riverhead Tomcats to their second straight HCBL Championship Series appearance. Becker was recognized as the 2019 HCBL Reliever of the Year by the HCBL coaches. Becker beat out his Tomcat teammate Joseph Murphy (NYIT) by four points to win the award.
Becker made 16 appearances on the mound for the Tomcats during the 2019 regular season. The Burlington, MA native was 1-0 for Riverhead with seven saves with an ERA of 1.98. Becker tied Westhampton’s Logan Verrino (Florida Southern) for the league lead in saves and tied the Tomcats single season record in that category.
The UMass Lowell Riverhawk was selected to the HCBL All-Star Game in Mid-July. Becker tossed a scoreless inning with a strikeout for the Blue Team All-Stars in the game.
Becker is the first Tomcat to be named HCBL Reliever of the Year since Nick Johnson (Southern Mississippi) was recognized in the 2012 season.
