Big Sticks Rally Late to Take Game 2 from Whiskey Jacks

BRANDON, MB - The Badlands Big Sticks faced off against the Whiskey Jacks for the second straight time Saturday night. In a low scoring affair, the Big Sticks were able to rally late to win the game by a score of 6-3.

The Big Sticks got on the board first in the second inning after back to back singles by Garrett Dupuis and Gabe Knowles to put runners on the corners with no outs. Olsen would ground into a double play but would score Dupuis from third to give the Big Sticks a 1-0 advantage.

After a pair of scoreless innings, the Whiskey Jacks took the lead by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on second and third a fielder’s choice allowed the Whiskey Jacks to score the first run of the inning. The next batter hit a RBI single to left field to put them up 2-1.

In the sixth inning the Whiskey Jacks were able to add a run to their lead. A single down the third base line allowed a run to score and put the Whiskey Jacks up 3-1.

The Big Sticks responded with two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game. A two out double by Bryson Ford followed by a home run by Nathan Sanders tied the game at 3-3 with two innings to play.

After a scoreless eighth inning the Big Sticks were able to plate three runs in the top of the ninth. A two out double by Ford scored the pinch runner Michael Fuhrman from first base to give the Big Sticks the lead. A single by Sanders would drive in Ford and add another run to the Big Stick’s total. Sanders was able to make his way to third base which allowed him to score on a single by Mason Schwellenbach to give the Big Sticks a 6-3 lead.

The Big Sticks would hold on in the bottom of the ninth to take game two of the series by a score of 6-3.

The Big Sticks will go for the series sweep Sunday afternoon as they face off against the Whiskey Jacks for the final time this season. First pitch is set for 3:35 (MDT).
